About This Show

The human boy is a curious creature, and there are few greater mysteries then the boy’s mind during its most volatile and confusing stage… early adolescence. The Migratory Patterns of Boys observes the human boy, Matthew, in his natural suburban habitat with his compulsive divorced mother. On the eve of his 13th birthday Matthew is tempted to move in with his father and newly-acquired stepmother. Can his mother convince him to stay with her or is she fighting a futile battle against The Migratory Patterns of Boys? A reception and audience TalkBack follows the reading.

The Migratory Patterns of Boys is presented as part of City Lights Theater Company’s New Play Readers Series. The series gives promising new plays by local playwrights a workshop play-reading production, followed by an audience TalkBack session in which audiences can let the artists know what they think of the show. Potential plays are reviewed by the New Play Readers’ Committee and are selected on a competitive basis. City Lights secures the actors and director for the piece, and the playwright is closely involved with casting decisions and rehearsals. The public play readings are one-night-only performances that occur on selected nights throughout City Lights’ season.
