About This Show

Local phenomenon Mark Jackson, creator of the critically acclaimed The Death of Meyerhold, returns to Shotgun Players with The Forest War, a high theatrical tragedy with lovers torn apart, cruel villains, political intrigue, and a sense of melodramatic fun to keep pace with the drama.

As a ten-year war over a great expanse of forest ends, an aging king passes his sword not to his son, but to a peace-loving wealthy landowner who is well liked by the people. Feeling betrayed, and still eager to finish what he views as the uncompleted Forest War, the king’s son proceeds to twist a thick and bloody plot designed to turn the people against their new king and get soldiers back on the battlefield. The Forest War is a tale of an ancient Asiatic society’s tireless, economy-driven war machine, and how it is fueled by personal desire and ambition as well as the public’s own susceptibility to rumor and propaganda.
