About This Show

The Crucible is set in Puritan Massachusetts during the famous Salem witch trials. A clear-eyed look at mass hysteria, greed, and jealousy at work in a witch-hunt, the play was a criticism for the infamous McCarthy hearings of the 1950s. Timothy Near directs this opera by Robert Ward and Bernard Stambler, based on the play by Arthur Miller.
