About This Show

Transparent Theatre presents the world premiere of San Francisco Noir: Stories of Dashiell Hammett, a stage adaptation by Tom Clyde

Up until 1849, San Francisco was a peaceful, quiet harbor with wide open spaces and sandy beaches. The Gold Rush brought a courageous, free-spirited, openness to ideas and life styles — and with it, extreme greed, vice and degeneracy. What happened? Who done it? Turn up your trench coat collar and exercise your detective skills in San Francisco Noir. Follow the Continental Op, a short, thick-bodied, mulishly stubborn, indifferent-to-pain detective (or “operative”) as he dives into the sordid underbelly of San Francisco circa 1927 – the houses of ill-repute on Telegraph Hill, the Chinatown side-streets, the back offices filled with cigar-chomping detectives at the Hall of Justice. In true Dashiell Hammett style, San Francisco Noir uses plain spoken language and classic characters to solve a couple-a murders with fog-enshrouded clues.
