Rudyard Kipling’s 19th century masterpiece “The Jungle Book,” which was subsequently made into a movie of the same name by Disney in 1967, gets a makeover in this stage adaptation by Harish Sunderam Agastya. Mowgli & I is a re-interpretation and extension of Kipling’s original, where man-cub Mowgli, raised by wolves and other animals, attempts to escape his arch-enemy, a man-eating tiger named Sher Khan. The play, set in modern day India, uses multiple narrators, as well as spectacular costumes, sets and music, to explore the personalities and backstories behind the characters and weave a colorful tale of friendship, aspiration, betrayal, and self-discovery that people of all ages can relate to and enjoy.
