About This Show

Active Arts Theatre for Young Audiences presents their last show of the 2006-07 season with a tribute to one of California’s great social heroes.

Manzi: The Adventures of Young Cesar Chavez is a play by José Cruz Gonzalez. The story is through the eyes of Cesar’s sister, Rita. Through her voice, young audiences get to know Cesar Chavez and the hardships that he and his family faced when they lost their farm in Arizona and moved to California to pick crops in the fields. The life lessons that the young Cesar learns about intolerance, injustice, and the value of education inspire his lifelong quest to improve conditions for farm workers and to bring dignity to their lives.

Through an upbeat combination of music and storytelling, Manzi: The Adventures of Young Cesar Chavez explores these lessons and the question ‘can one young Mexican-American boy bring more justice into the world?’
