F.O.B. & F.O.P.

Grace, Dale and Steve, three twenty-something-year olds in 1978 explore their Chinese and Chinese American identities among the Bee-Gees, Chinese food, and ancient Chinese ghosts. In this revival of David Henry Hwang’s F.O.B., Mitzie Abe directs three actors, in their 40s and 50s, who revisit their moment in Asian American theater history. The original script is intact, but the actors play themselves from an earlier time.

In Sean Lim’s F.O.P., James, Joyce, and Ulysses, three twenty-something-year olds in 2006 explore their Korean and Korean American identities aboard a new Airbus A380 jumbo jet to Korea. Hoping to reclaim the baggage their parents lost on their way to Korea, they discover that traveling begins with what you must leave behind. Sean Lim directs this modern twist on the identity play.
