About This Show

Aladdin is shown by the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival in “panto” tradition. Trademarks of traditional panto include slapstick comedy, cross-dressing in the comic female and principal boy roles, new versions of favorite pop songs, and in-jokes for the grown-ups in the audience. Of course, there is also plenty of audience participation. The flying carpet actually flies, genies will materialize as if from nowhere, and there is even a talking camel. Songs include “Midnight at the Oasis,” “Don’t Fence Me In,” and “What’s New, Pussycat?”
