M. Butterfly

David Henry Hwang’s Tony Award-winning play M. Butterfly tells the incredible true-life story of a French diplomat brought to ruin (conviction for espionage) by a bizarre twenty-year affair with a Beijing Opera diva. Not only had the French diplomat failed to recognize that this lover was a spy; he’d also failed to recognize that “she” was a he. Doren Elias directs.
