A young soldier comes home from World War II to find that the real battle has just begun. His parents, still mired in their long-standing resentments, vie for his love without seeing that the boy who left for war is not the man who has returned. This rarely produced Pulitzer Prize-winning work, The Subject Was Roses, celebrates its 40th anniversary on the Public’s stage.
