About This Show

Written by August Wilson, this is one in a series of ten plays, The Pittsburgh Cycle, for which he received two Pulitzer Prizes for
Drama. Each play is set in a different decade of the 1900’s, and illuminates the comic and tragic aspects of the African?
American experience in the Twentieth Century. Set in Pittsburgh, 1948, the laughter of friends mingles with the sound of
blues and the crow of a rooster. The play opens with a small group of friends who gather in the dirt backyard of an apartment
house after the untimely death of guitarist Floyd "Schoolboy" Barton. Part comedy, part dark elegy, part mystery, Seven
Guitars is a sultry riff on the American Dream.
