About This Show

Written by Andre De Shields and James P. Mirrione, Ambassador Satch explores Louis Armstrong’s celebrity as international ambassador and his controversial role as a cultural icon, set against the turbulent backdrop of the Civil Rights movement. Joining De Shields on stage will be virtuoso ragtime pianist and musical director Terry Waldo along with the band members playing the “hot five” musicians who helped shape the Satchmo sound, and an actress portraying the women in Armstrong’s life. Choreography is by Mercedes Ellington.

Closing performance is on March 9 at 7pm. This is in addition to the 2pm matinee.
