The University Theatre presents Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom by August Wilson. Legendary blues singer Gertrude “Ma” Rainey returns to Chicago to record her hit of the same name. Conflict arises when Levee, her young trumpet player, schemes to record his version of the song. A drama with music, Wilson tells the story of Ma’s recording session, her band, and the producer, and manager who made themselves rich off her recordings.
