About this show

Melodia Women's Choir, which Meredith Monk said "sings with radiance and beauty," invites listening audiences to experience two original premiere works from two remarkable emerging composers for Where Shadow Chases Light, a 15th anniversary concert.

First, the world premiere of Red Bird about the Native American artist-activist-writer-feminist Zitkala-sa's life from Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian, a British Composer Award winner and composer-in-residence for the London Symphony Orchestra.

Second, the New York premiere of Where Shadow Chases Light, the concert's title work, from NYC's own Deanna Witkowski, who was just pre-nominated in three categories for the Grammy Awards for her jazz and composition work.

"This program will have all the elements I love — exciting original premieres as well as well-loved favorites [from Eric Whitacre, Gustav Holst, György Orbán], mind-blowing harmonies, a diversity of musical voices, and absolutely divine musicianship," said conductor Cynthia Powell.
