In this intimate event, Adriana Cao Romero will masterfully perform a selection of sones jarochos in the harp, accompanied by special guests. This event is part of the 11th NY Son Jarocho Festival, presented by the Son Jarocho NY Collective and sponsored by the CUNY Mexican Studies Institute.
Adriana Cao Romero was born in Veracruz and began her musical training at a very young age. Her passion for the arpa jarocha (traditional Mexican harp) has positioned her as one of the most recognized performers of this instrument in Mexico, which she learned from harp masters Pánfilo Valerio, Nicolás Sosa and Andrés Alfonso Vergara. She is a founding member of Caña Dulce y Caña Brava (2007) and has been part of renowned son jarocho bands Zacamandú, Mono Blanco and Chuchumbé. She has collaborated with Tembembe, Los Otros and artists such as El Negro Ojeda, Geo Meneses and Lila Downs. In 2011, she was honored for her career and contributions to traditional Mexican music at the prestigious IV Festival de la Décima Guillermo Cházaro Lagos in Mexico City.
