About the Show

The Cabaret presents the world premiere of Ephemera by John Yearley.

The play tells the story of a young girl, Maggie, who is dying. Due to her religion, Maggie is forbidden to go to the doctor, with the insistence that her body is sin and her faith will heal her. What ensues is a feverish attempt to “take her body for a spin” while she still has control over it. Maggie moves almost unnoticed through the lives of Tony, a Professor of Pornography, his wife, Mary, a former student desperate for the passion they once had, an intellectual porn star, and a hitman who cuts himself to release the pain life continues to dole out to him. Each observation brings Maggie closer to understanding her own personal freedom and her own relationship between her body and mind.

Ephemera is The John Gassner New Play Festival winner.
