Works & Process Spring 2017 Season

Works & Process at the Guggenheim is pleased to announce its spring 2017 season. Since 1984, the performing arts series has championed new works and offered audiences unprecedented access to leading creators and performers. Each intimate, 80-minute performance combines artistic creation with stimulating conversation, and takes place in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s Frank Lloyd Wright-designed, 285-seat Peter B. Lewis Theater. Among this season’s events are the following…

• February 27: a discussion with playwright Zayd Dohrn and director Kip Fagan on the creation of The Profane. Members of the cast will perform excerpts from Dohrn’s sharp and timely tale about Raif Almedin. Safe in the liberal fortress of Manhattan, Almedin is a first-generation immigrant who prides himself on his modern, enlightened views. But when his daughter falls for the son of a conservative Muslim family, two households are forced to confront each other’s religious beliefs and cultural traditions, and to face their own deep-seated prejudice.
• March 5: a discussion with Canadian writer duo Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Tony-nominated choreographer Kelly Devine, and Tony-nominated director Christopher Ashley on the creative process behind the new musical Come From Away. Members of the cast will perform highlights from the show.
• March 6: a discussion with Oslo playwright J.T. Rogers and director Bartlett Sher prior to the show’s Broadway premiere. Excerpts from the play will be performed by members of the cast.
