Signatures 11 Program III: A Celebration of Legends & Visionaries

About This Show

“New York Theatre Ballet confirms its status as an invaluable company.” – Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times

New York Theatre Ballet is thrilled to present a new work created especially for the company by British choreographer Richard Alston, Artistic Director of "The Place," during the final Signatures 11 program, May 13 & 14 @ 7 pm at Florence Gould Hall, 55 East 59th Street (between Park & Madison Avenues). Known for the way he uses music as a point of departure for his choreography, Mr. Alston’s new work, which he is choreographing at the company’s studio for a month prior to the performance, will be danced to Aaron Copland’s "Piano Variations."

This program includes the world premiere of Richard Alston’s A Rugged Flourish.

Richard Alston, Artistic Director of The Place in London and former director of Ballet Rambert, has made a new ballet specially for NYTB to Aaron Copland’s Piano Variations with costumes designed by Metropolitan Opera Resident Costume Designer, Sylvia Taalsohn Nolan.

Other ballets on the program are Frederick Ashton’s Capriol Suite, Merce Cunningham’s Septet and Antony Tudor’s Jardin aux Lilas and Soiree Musicale.

A special feature on the program is Between The Acts: Conversation on Dance, an informal discussion with David Vaughan on May 13 and Richard Alston on May 14.
