About This Show

The Joffrey Ballet performs Krzysztof Pastor’s magnificent remounting of his 2008 production of Romeo & Juliet. Set in 20th-century Italian society, this updated version of the classic story is especially relevant for contemporary audiences. It goes beyond an exploration of family strife to position Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers against a backdrop of complicated politics and war. The dancing is propelled by Sergei Prokofiev’s lushly dramatic 1935 score, played by members of the Chicago Philharmonic.

Note: The Joyce gala evening takes place on Thursday, March 30. That night, the Joffrey Ballet performs Body of Your Dreams by Myles Thatcher, Fool’s Paradise by Christopher Wheeldon, and Bells by Yuri Possokhov.
