About This Show

National Dance Institute’s 2023 Event of the Year, “RISE: Celebrating the Life of Dr. Maya Angelou,” will bring together over 100 talented children from New York City public schools in a performance of dance and live music honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Maya Angelou. Known as an author, poet, civil rights activist, singer, and dancer, Maya Angelou used her voice to inspire people across the world. Directed by Bianca Johnson, with soul-stirring narration by Toni Blackman & Osyris Antham, “RISE” will feature special performances by NDI Helen Stambler Neuberger Artist-in-Residence LayeRhythm & Chrybaby Cozie, as well as new and original works created by NDI’s team of Choreographers and Musicians.
