About this show

The Underground at the Abrons series presents Bessie Award-winner Pete Drungle and his diverse, dynamic solo piano music. With this in-performance exploration of the composition/improvisation continuum, expect to hear Drungle perform his own new compositions and improvisations, as well as solo piano works by Debussy and Stravinsky. Pete Drungle is an acclaimed composer, pianist and sound designer who lives and works in NYC. Drungle is an intrepid, adventurous improviser - which is possibly best exemplified by his 24-HOUR CONTINUOUS SOLO PIANO IMPROVISATION for Performa07. Drungle has made music with many legendary musicians - including Ornette Coleman, The Kronos Quartet, Yoko Ono, Ronald Shannon Jackson's Decoding Society, The Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Craig Harris, Sean Lennon, Martha Wainwright, Pamelia Kurstin, Avery Brooks, and many others. As a composer, Drungle has created scores for theater, television and film, and has collaborated on several works for dance, including Sarah Michelson's DOVER BEACH ("Best of 2009" - TimeOut NY), Michael Portnoy's THE 'K' SOUND, and Susan Vencl's 2X4. He has collaborated with many visual and performance artists, including Marianne Vitale, Agathe Snow, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, Michael Portnoy, and others.
