About this show

Alisa Sommer and Room5001 Theatre present the world premiere of Something More Pleasant as part of the 10th annual New York International Fringe Festival. Set in a world where Grimm's Fairytales meet the dysfunction of modern day, this is the story of a brother and sister who go into the woods to escape the abuse of an evil stepmother. But when a series of misfortunes threaten to disrupt their storybook ending their happily ever after soon turns into a blood bath. The play was developed by playwright Joshua William Gelb and director Brittany O'Neill at Playwrights Horizons Theater School in 2005. Soon after, the longtime collaborators formed Room5001 Theatre, along with Craig Jorczak and Katie Mcgehee. Room5001 is a collective of young artists who use kinetic story telling to create exciting theatrical experiences. Their productions transport the audience to worlds both dreamlike and nightmarish.
