On any given day, life for a young person in Brooklyn can be challenging, tragic, bewildering, hilarious, or a little bit unreal – all qualities of great theater. Six adolescents from Red Hook turn life into art when they join forces with professional actors, directors to perform in their own plays.
Off the Hook is a playwriting and performance program that teaches kids between the ages of 12 and 16 a simple approach to writing a play. At the end of the 10 week workshop, which began in February, the participant have the opportunity to join with professional theater artists, who have volunteered their time, to bring the play to life.
