J.C. Hopkins Biggish Band with Syd Straw

Great eclectic vocalist Syd Straw joins the J.C. Hopkins Biggish Band at the Slipper Room. Straw, who has sung with everyone from the Golden Palominos to Carla Bley to Lou Reed, sings from the band’s original songbook, as well as a few of her own.

The JC Hopkins Biggish Band features some of New York’s finest musicians, including sizzling hot brass and reed veterans of the Basie, Ellington, and Hampton Bands: Patience Higgins (tenor sax), James Zollar (trumpet), J. Walter Hawkes (trombone), and Cleve Guyton (alto sax). Also appearing are Doug Weiselman (baritone sax – Lou Reed, John Zorn), Vincent Chancey (French horn – Sun Ra Arkestra), Catherine Popper (bass – Hem), and guitarist Liberty Ellman.
