About This Show

Georgia, by Gian DiDonna, details that on the eve of Ronald Reagan’s funeral in June 2004, an African-American elder struggles with the fact that Ray Charles’ passing is not receiving adequate attention. DiDonna is a playwright and a college professor. He has directed theatre as well as classical concertos and has appeared in several major motion pictures. He received his MFA in Playwriting from Goddard College in Vermont and was trained as an actor at The London Academy of Music.

Speak Your Mind, by Michael R. Ramirez, is a witty and moving anthology of four stories, each giving voice to diverse urbanities speaking aloud on aspects of life from memories of family and home to the idea of marriage. In this poignant and visceral portrait, Ramirez, an author and teacher, explores the thoughts and mental conversations we have with ourselves when alone. Ramirez’s other plays include Spanish White Girl and unWanted. She is also the author of nine books for youth.

This double bill is part of the Downtown Urban Theater Festival.
