About This Show

Partners in Progress is proud to present the return of the award-winning B.J.: The Trial of a Transgender Country Singing Star. This one-man show written and performed by Scott Hess is about a 15 year old southern boy and his meteoric rise to fame. Hess portrays 21 characters in this rags-to-riches story of B.J., a shy teenage boy who comes to New York City with nothing but a homemade halter top and a dream: to become the first transgender performer to grace the stage of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. One sex change later, B.J. is poised to achieve his dream but not without the help and hindrances of characters such as: Lady Charade, Ida Parker, Downtown Julie Brown, and B.J.’s disapproving Momma.
