Site-specific choreographer Noemie Lafrance has long drawn inspiration from public spaces. For her new work, Agora, Lafrance has chosen the abandoned McCarren Park Pool In Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Lafrance describes the event as a re-inauguration for the historical site, inviting the public to enjoy McCarren Pool again and to make visible its potential to the community.
With over 30 dancers, the piece focuses on city life, using the vastness of the pool to create an illusion of travel through the different layers of visceral urban experiences.
Agora allows audiences to experience art outside of the traditional settings of museums, theaters and concert halls.
