About This Show

The first musical theatre work by a New York artist to address the events of September 11, 2001, debuts at the New York International Fringe Festival this summer. 9/11: The Book of Job, with book, music and lyrics by Danny Ashkenasi, combines verse from the Old Testament’s Book of Job with contemporary news accounts to explore the social, political and emotional repercussions of September 11.

The show follows the central character of Job in the aftermath of catastrophe as he accuses God in a surreal trial. Eyewitnesses, victims, and warriors testify. Falwell, Stockhausen, Bush, and Bin Laden are heard from. Finally, God speaks. With a powerful, emotional score that falls somewhere between music theatre and oratorio, the show dramatizes Job’s cathartic journey from rage and resignation to a kind of peace and acceptance. Fredrick Byers Productions presents this musical convocation in 10 chapters.
