About This Show

Paulette Haupt, Artistic Director of PREMIERES, a New-York based not-for-profit development company, presents a workshop production of a new work by playwright and composer Lauren Robert.

.22 Caliber Mouth is described as a stunning original musical drama with an extraordinary and emotionally powerful score. In a world where words are weapons and language is loaded, the play explodes the myths of love and sexuality with smoldering humor and soul-stirring music. Life’s mysterious timing brings five people living in New York in the early ’80s together as they struggle to escape the shipwrecks of their past and find redemption and joy. Some are triumphant, others are not.

For audiences interested in discovering new work that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional musical theater, this is a limited and inexpensive opportunity to join in that exploration.

Diane Paulus, the director (The Donkey Show, Swimming with Watermelons, Brutal Imagination, Running Man and Eli’s Comin’), brings a dynamic and innovative aesthetic to the world that Ms. Robert has created. Joined by music director Ray Fellman and a team of superior designers with a cast led by Lauren Robert, this is an edgy theatrical experience not to be missed.

.22 Caliber Mouth began its journey on the main stage of the Bloomington Playwrights Project in 2003. It was further developed at the O’Neill Music Theater Conference in 2004, where Paulette Haupt, as co-founder and artistic director has guided the development of more than one hundred new works, including Nine, Avenue Q, Jeanine Tesori’s Violet, Kirsten Child’s The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Cameleon Skin, and Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party.

Capacity is limited to 25 for this production.
