Forbidden Christmas or The Doctor and The Patient

About the Show

Georgian director/screenwriter/artist Rezo Gabriadze presents the New York premiere of a moving, and visually-stunning new play he conceived and directed, Forbidden Christmas or The Doctor and The Patient. Part absurdist drama, part fantasy-allegory, the six-character, ensemble work features fantastically-colored flying scenery and props. It is set in a small town in the Soviet Republic of Georgia, circa 1950s, on one night-Christmas Eve-when a Doctor (performed by Jon DeVries) is called in on a troubling case. The Patient (played by Mikhail Baryshnikov) is a seemingly demented ex-soldier, who after returning home to find that his fiancee has married his best friend, spends his time “driving” around town in a car that is visible only to him.
