This powerful evening of music taps into the driving pulse of creative power coming out of Latin America right now. Through the works of three rising star composers of Latin American descent, Michael Christie and the BP set out to explore the new sound of the next generation. Composer and pianist Gabriela Lena Frank’s Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout is inspired by various Andean legends and traditions, melding elements of Western classical tradition with indigenous instruments and stories. Enrico Chapela’s US premiere of Noctámbulos features Chapela himself as part of the rock trio that drives this energetic and powerful suite. Paul Desenne’s glorious violin concerto The Two Seasons, an intense meditation on the beauty and destruction of the wet and dry tropical seasons, completes the program.
