One of Brooklyn’s original six towns, Bushwick was mostly developed in the 19th century with streets of fine row houses, baronial mansions, lovely churches, and large breweries. Just east of trendy Williamsburg, artists have already been discovering this multiethnic neighborhood that was mostly German until the beginning of the 20th century. View the remnants of Bushwick’s glorious past and the evidence of revitalization in the community’s new housing. End the tour at St. Barbara’s Roman Catholic Church, a Spanish Baroque architectural confection from 1910, and one of Brooklyn’s most beautiful churches. No reservations needed. Show up and pay on site.
The tour is led by Joe Svehlak, urban historian. Meet at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue & Broadway.
