About This Show

Originally from Washington, DC and having sung from a very young age, Roderick Harper found his calling as a student of the late Alvin Batiste at Southern University in Baton Rouge, and then his home when Batiste offered him the chance to guest with our dear late, great Ellis Marsalis Jr, who immediately began having Harper as a vocalist with his band for the next several years.

Roderick's next move would be to New York City, where he performed with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and was soon sharing stages with likes of Max Roach, Dizzy Gillespie, Jon Hendricks, Shirley Horn, and Nicholas Payton, who would end up producing Harper's second album, "The Essence Of…"
Now after nearly a decade in Chicago, Harper has returned to New Orleans and released two more albums, illustrating his versatility as a vocalist ten-fold, bringing his discography to five albums and his repertoire to a seemingly infinite dance between limitless genres, including jazz, soul and R&B hits.
As the diversity of his discography implies, " 'E-volv-ing' is more than just the title of Roderick Harper's exceptional new record; it's his entire way of life."
Tonight, we welcome Roderick Harper and his band back to Snug for the first time in nearly two years.
