About This Show

The new stage musical Willy Wonka comes to Westport Country Playhouse, presented by The Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration on Tour.
Adapted by Leslie Bricusse and Tim McDonald from Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the show features music and lyrics are by Bricusse and Anthony Newley.

The audience is invited to journey on an adventure of the imagination into the limitless wishes of four greedy children, the secrets of a scrumptious chocolate factory, and the honesty of a hopeful heart where the rules are backwards and the fun is indescribable.

Willy Wonka, the world’s greatest candymaker, has kept the wonders of his chocolate factory a secret – until now. After a lifetime of making unbelievable candies and sweets, Wonka is finally ready to retire, but only after he finds the perfect person to take his place. Following a frantic search for the golden tickets hidden within five special Wonka bars, a sweet-natured boy named Charlie Bucket and four other Golden Ticket winners get the tour of a lifetime in the mysterious candymaker’s fantastical factory. Willy Wonka and his band of Oompa Loompas lead Charlie, the spoiled-rotten Veruca Salt, gluttonous Augustus Gloop, gum-chewing Violet Beauregarde, and television junkie Mike Teavee through a labyrinth of lemon drops, life lessons, and giggles galore.

Featuring live actors, puppets, plenty of surprises, and many memorable songs, including “The Candy Man,” “I Want It Now!”, and “Pure Imagination,” Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is a scrumptious musical theatre treat for the entire family.
