About This Show

“Come not between a dragon and his wrath” warns the aged monarch at the start of Shakespeare’s tragic masterpiece King Lear. With the division of his kingdom and the banishment of those closest to him, Lear sets in motion a series of disastrous events, told using some of the most transcendent poetry ever written for the stage. Majesty descends to destruction and chaos in a play that is at once apocalyptic and mythic. Yet this show is also, at its bleeding heart, a portrait of a family’s disintegration, as daughters Regan and Goneril turn against their father, whose youngest and best, Cordelia, returns from exile to fight on his behalf.
