About This Show

Unicorn Theatre presents the Kansas City premiere of Gregg Coffin’s Convenience, an intimate musical about a single mother and her estranged son who struggle against their stormy past to reveal present secrets that will either tear them apart or push them to reconcile.

Liz, a single mother, and Vince, her twenty-six year old son, haven’t seen eye to eye in some time – not since Vince’s father abandoned them twenty years earlier. Now, each is keeping a life-altering secret from the other. Liz is newly engaged and planning on moving away. Vince is gay and moving in with his new boyfriend. Haunted by the ghosts of their painful past, neither mother nor son has the words or courage to confront their mutual distrust. With the encouragement of their respective partners, the two finally come together and are forced to revisit the past and reacquaint themselves with the people they’ve become. In one single funny, awkward and touching week, Liz and Vince realize they must face the things they’ve conveniently avoided for years. Far more than merely a coming out story, Convenience is about growing up and coming clean. Will the doors between this family be sealed forever, or will new ones open?
