About This Show

Three friends, one work of abstract art: these are the elements that French playwright Yasmina Reza combines to make Art, a bitingly funny turn-of-the-20th-century comedy of manners. When Serge blows a fortune on an all-white canvas, Marc blows his top, and tries to enlist the aid of their mutual friend, the hapless Yvan, in convincing Serge that he’s made a terrible, foolish mistake. The foibles of friendship and the funny side of amour propre yield abundant comic material in this 1998 Tony Award-winning Best Play. Judd Hirsch directs and heads the cast, which also includes veteran New York stage actors Cotter Smith and Jack Willis.
