About the Show

The Maliotis Cultural Center presents a cabaret version of Aristophanes’ anti-war comedy, directed by Michael Cacoyannis, the famed Greek film and theatrical director, writer and producer who directed the highly successful film Zorba the Greek. Lysistrata is the third and final play of Aristophanes War and Peace series produced in 411 B.C. The play depicts the untenable conditions of the 21st year of the thirty-year Peloponnesus War where there is little prospect for peace between Athens and Sparta. A desperate state of affairs demands a desperate remedy and Aristophanes offers a burlesque and surprising solution to the problem of constant war.
