Director Robbie McCauley, who originated the role of Clara, resumes her long term relationship to Adrienne Kennedy’s plays as director of Emerson Stage’s production of A Movie Star has to Star in Black and White. A young female African American writer in the late 1950s, Clara’s story unfolds through scenes from Now Voyager, Via Zapata and A Place in the Sun. According to Ms. McCauley, the play speaks “images that shape and reveal the core of the young woman’s life while exploring and creating encounters with identity, yearnings, and the essence of survival.”
