About This Show

Lonny Chapman Group Repertory Theatre ("LCGRT") presents Chris Loprete’s charming one-man show, You’re From Philly, Charlie Brown!, directed by Thomas Fiscella and produced by Laura Coker for GRT.

You’re From Philly, Charlie Brown! is an autobiographical story about an underdog boy from an underdog town. He has as much heart as the city he loves, but neither he nor his town’s teams can get over that hump of success. Just like the famed cartoon character, the young boy continues to find hope, even in moments of utter despair. Set against the backdrop of the sixth game of the 1980 World Series, Loprete offers a hilarious rollercoaster ride of relationships, laughs, tears, failures, and finally, triumph. Whether or not you’re a sports fan, this is a story about finding your place in life.

CHRIS LOPRETE (actor / playwright) grew up outside of Philadelphia and earned his Theatre Arts degree from Penn State University. After settling in Los Angeles in 1997, he wrote and performed with the improvisational group, The Groundlings, and soon became the lead singer of Clint Howard (The Band). He also joined the award-winning Circle X Theatre Company. It was at Circle X in 2004 that Chris world premiered You’re from Philly, Charlie Brown! as the 2nd act of a larger show called Married But Solo written and performed with his wife Ally. The show enjoyed a sold out extended run. In September of 2005, Chris toured You’re From Philly… to his home town and enjoyed a critically acclaimed two week run at the Philly Fringe Fest. On December 1st 2005, Chris was invited to perform the show to a sold out house at the Comedy Central Stage in Hollywood. The Philadelphia Inquirer calls the show “charming, funny and thoughtful from the first inning to the ninth.”
