About This Show

Originally staged in 1857, this classic melodrama culled from the rich tapestry of America’s pre-Civil War history, could have been ripped from today’s headlines. The play chronicles the rise and fall of banker, Gideon Bloodgood, during the financial panics of 1837 and 1857. The parallel lives of the Bloodgood and Fairweather families are chronicled over twenty years with the coming of age of new villains and untapped heroes. An eleventh hour reprieve from an unexpected source culminates in a satisfying climax.
