About This Show

The Play’s The Thing is L.A. Theatre Works’ radio theater series, where all performances are recorded for future broadcast on KPCC 89.3 FM, Southern California Public Radio. The Spring 2003 season includes the following plays:

March 12 – March 16: Speed-the-Plow is David Mamet’s bitingly funny look at the ethics of Hollywood.

March 26 – March 30: Going to St. Ives by Lee Blessing presents two impressive women whose political and cultural differences define and divide them as they attempt to accomplish the greatest good.

April 9 – April 13: Tape by Stephen Belber in which edgy humor gives way to a fiery confrontation that examines the motives of memory and perception.

April 30 – May 4: Once in a Lifetime is the classic George Kaufman and Moss Hart screwball comedy that spoofs Hollywood studios and the American gift for self-invention.

May 28 – June 1: Falsettos is the musical by William Finn, featuring Michael Rupert and Chip Zien of the original New York production.

June 18 – June 21: Desire Under the Elms is Eugene O’Neill’s powerful tragedy of a family torn apart by greed, passion, and revenge.

July 9 – July 13: Breaking the Code by Hugh Whitemore tells the story of Alan Turing who broke the German Enigma code and helped to win World War II, only to find out that his country cared less about his genius than his sexual orientation.
