About This Show

Kentwood Players presents Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple, directed by Larry Jones, assistant directed by Karintha Touton and produced by Christine Joëlle. Featured in the cast are Joseph Buttler as Felix, Scot Renfro as Oscar, with Max Cabot, Harold Dershimer, Roger Ehrenreich, and Dave Scotti as their poker buddies, and Maria Pallas and Karen Pellant as the Pigeon sisters.

Originally conceived by Neil Simon, who based the play on his brother Danny’s true-life experience, The Odd Couple was a hit 1965 Broadway play and won several Tony Awards, including Best Play. It tells the story of two mismatched roommates, Felix Ungar, a neurotic, neat freak news writer, who is thrown out by his wife and moves in with Oscar Madison, a slovenly sportswriter. Neither is quite sure why their marriages fell apart, and after they move in together to save money for alimony, they suddenly discover they’re having the same conflicts and fights they had in their marriages. Several interesting characters populate their lives including poker buddies Murray the cop and Oscar’s accountant Roy, along with Speed and Vinnie. Adding a feminine touch are Cecily and Gwendolyn Pigeon, Oscar and Felix’s upstairs neighbors, a pair of fun-loving British sisters.
