About This Show

Lust, avarice and a healthy dose of cross-dressing are all on fine display when a young girl pretends to be a man to learn more about her husband-to-be. What she discovers bends everything from gender to our notions of love. A world of darker meaning lies beneath the wit and verbal exuberance of Theatre de la Jeune Lune’s (The Miser) new version of this classic romp.

Theatre de la Jeune Lune won the 2005 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre. The company was founded in France in 1978 by Minneapolitan Barbra Berlovitz and Parisians Dominique Serrand and Vincent Gracieux. Robert Rosen, also a Minneapolitan, later joined the group. All are graduates of the renowned Lecoq School of Physical Theatre Training in Paris and jointly share the duties of Artistic Director. Steven Epp, who joined the company in 1983, also serves as an Artistic Director.

The Deception was adapted from Pierre Marivaux’s La Fausse Suivante by Steven Epp and Dominique Serrand, who also directs.
