About This Show

Hilariously provocative, what begins as a contemporary play slowly becomes a play with music set 150 years in the future in this seductive world premiere by Tony Award winner David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly). A beloved East-meets-West musical, China’s 21st-century rise, and a theater company gala collide to make mayhem — and some beautiful music. Inspired by the West’s often ridiculously inauthentic portrayals of Asia, Soft Power is the first collaboration between two of America’s great theater artists: Hwang and Tony-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home).
