Using mostly verbatim testimony of survivors, this new play follows the story of two women sent to a Magdalene Laundry: Brigid (Michelle Lehane) and Christina (Grace Fitzgerald).
In 20th-century Ireland, in a time before sex education or contraception, women who became pregnant outside of marriage, or even those who fell under suspicion of promiscuity, were condemned by both community and church as fallen women. Their punishment was to be sent to one of Ireland's 10 cruel Magdalene Laundries.
In 1998, four women broke their silence on their experiences.
These are their stories.
