About This Show

Richard III, a consummate villain, fascinates us to the point that we watch, enthralled, by his contemptible climb to become King of England. He uses sickly seduction, brutal murder and voracious ambition to bring his own country to yet another war. Shakespeare entices us with Richard’s warped version of truth, cryptic asides and yes, charm. He captures us, weaves a spell and we willingly follow him on his journey. Once Richard is crowned, the play shifts. We find ourselves separating from his despicable plots that lead, ultimately, to his own destruction. Many plays leave us outside and observing. This play draws us in and makes us question how much devastation we can witness before seeing this man for who he really is.
