Pacific Playwrights Festival

South Coast Repertory’s 8th Annual Pacific Playwrights Festival offers audiences a look at work from emerging playwrights as well as established writers. The PPF 2005 lineup features a workshop production — Tough Titty, four readings — Bossa Nova, The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler, Rabbit Hole, Ridiculous Fraud, and two fully-staged world premieres– Richard Greenberg’s A Naked Girl on the Appian Way and Lucinda Coxon’s Vesuvius.

This play is the story of a courageous young wife and mother who struggles to survive breast cancer while holding down a job, taking care of kids, cajoling her husband and conversing with God.

Bossa Nova, by Kirsten Greenidge, directed by Casey Stangl
Friday, May 6 at 1 p.m. on the Argyros Stage
Through the formative years in the life of an African-American woman, Bossa Nova bursts with humor as it asks serious questions about the search for identity in a world filled with contradictions.

The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler, by Jeff Whitty, directed by Bill Rauch
Friday May 6 at 3:30 p.m. on the Segerstrom Stage
Hedda lives on in “The Neighborhood of Tragic Women,” an alternative hell where fictional characters are forced to endure until at last they are forgotten. Will she ever really die?

Rabbit Hole is the story of a couple facing terrible loss and seeking the will to continue.
