About This Show

With its Pacific Playwrights Festival back for its seventh annual showcase May 7-9, South Coast Repertory continues to deliver on its promise to make major contributions to American theatre.

Over that one weekend, two world premiere productions and four staged readings will present the latest work by a half-dozen new and mid-career playwrights: Lucinda Coxon, Amy Freed, Richard Greenberg, Noah Haidle, Craig Lucas and Sarah Ruhl. The premiere productions of Amy Freed’s Safe in Hell (April 2 through May 9 on the 507-seat Segerstrom Stage) and Noah Haidle’s Mr. Marmalade (April 25 through May 16 on the 336-seat Julianne Argyros Stage) overlap that weekend and form the backdrop for four staged readings.

The reading schedule is as follows: Lucinda Coxon’s Vesuvius, Friday, May 7 at 1 p.m.; Sarah Ruhl’s The Clean House, Friday, May 7 at 3:30 p.m.; Craig Lucas’ Singing Forest, Saturday, May 8 at 10:30 a.m.; and Richard Greenberg’s Safe as Houses, Sunday, May 9 at 11 a.m.
