Monkey Grass

The Victory Theatre is proud to announce the world premiere of award-winning playwright Lee Murphy’s new comedy MONKEY GRASS. It is the second in a trilogy about a Texas family and is directed by veteran director Maria Gobetti. The story tells of Letha Messbaum, a Hollywood producer of mega-hit action adventure films. She is called away from production of her newest epic to attend to a family emergency in her hometown of Ditch Water, Texas. She becomes inextricably entwined in a local weed called “monkey grass.” In Letha’s case the creeper manifests as an aging beauty-queen mother, a sick sister, a complicated love-life and a volcano that refuses to erupt. It is a play about an ambitious woman who must come to terms with her past so she can have a present.
